The impact of industrial structure upgrading and digital economy integration on China’s urban carbon emissions

This paper is based on the research hypothesis that development of digital economy can enable urban carbon emission reduction. We use panel data 275 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2019, static panel-data interaction-effect model, and panel-threshold model verify non-linear impact mechanism heterogeneity industrial structure upgrading affecting emissions. The results demonstrate following insights. First, due industries, an increase proportion tertiary industry cannot reduce Second, has inverted U-shaped adjustment effect process upgrading, Consequently, integration achieve reductions. Finally, a double threshold carbon-emission-reduction only appears after scale crosses first threshold. As continues increase, structures likely continue increasing significantly. recommend local governments reduction by encouraging high-end service industries strengthening infrastructure.
